Default Custom M3 Rear Seat Delete - Updated with Pics 10/04/06

Hi everyone,

I meant to share this with you all (Sorry Obioban!) much, much earlier. Like 2 years ago. I should get a picture of it installed soon (well, I plan to!). Those of you in Montreal or Toronto have probably seen this.

This is my custom rear seat delete made from 5051 aircraft aluminum. It's power-coated black with laser engraving of the M3 logo. It's got some scratches of two years of rubbing my track wheels in the back seat.

For people who were asking: it took a small team including an engineer to design and to fabricate. 3 days to get measurements and a design. Another week to CAD it.. A couple of months to find a fabricator and new best friend. A few weeks to re-CAD, re-design and produce a couple test pieces. A few weeks to re-design, re-test, paint etc.. In total, around 4 - 5 months... at which point I lost interest in it and just used the darn thing for the past two years.

You take out the rear seats... And slid this in... It snaps in perfectly. You an put in screws to silence any random movements... but the tabs are there to keep it completely in place and ** safe **.

It weighs 11 or 12 lbs. It's a bit heavier than it has to be... but it's was over-designed for safety and to hold up against a set of SSR track wheels banging away in the back seat for two years of travelling to and fro the track.

Best of all, it's not uncomfortable and gives your long-legged girls another 2 inches of leg room in the back!

I also meant to see if there was interest in these as I could possibly put set up a limited production run.

Cheers,

J

PS: I'm a noob at hosting photos.. if someone knows how... I'd appreciate the help!

In for installed pics as well. The pics you took make the piece look small. Either way, nice work!

Why would you want to take the rear seats out again?

if you date a skinny girl, a chubby one always follows her. you eliminate the 3rd wheel this way.
