Default Questions about resale value

Hey there everyone, I'm new to the forum so I apologize if I ask stupid questions.

My mother owns a '88 M3 and has been using it as her daily driver since she got it. The car does drive and works, but it needs TLC. Its always been in southern California, but the body's developed some rust near the left front windshield vent. On top of that there are numerous issues like:

Original radio only gets AM
Gas gauge doesn't work
Odometer busted at 156820mi
AC fans only work on high speed

Plus the original drivers seat had to get replaced with a Sparco seat when the original seats metal tabs broke due to fatigue.

What I am trying to determine is, what would be a fair price for her to sell the car? According to the door jam plate the car is from 09/87 production. I've attached some photos to give an idea of the state of the car. Thanks!

Damn, hate to see cars in that condition!!

Post this over on S14.net, you will have much better response. With the condition and the rust, It is hard to say unless viewed in person. Do you have all maintenance history on the car? Also, has it ever been in any accidents or any fenders replaced?

I'm pretty sure that the cars never been in an accident, but I'll double check with her. As for the maintenance history my father is usually pretty meticulous with record keeping so there should be a fat folder in his records cabinet for work done on the car.

S14.net you say? I'll go give them a shot too.

as a very rough but running starter project (unknown mileage but everything seems present accept driver seat),i would say about $10,000, the more service history you can supply the higher it might fetch

Id guess at least 15k. Its getting harder to come by a complete e30 m3 with the original motor these data. With an interior detail, minor replacement parts, engine refresh, and some body work the car could look very good

Ive seen rough 200k mile e30's go for 15k

OP, your mother clearly had no idea what she had. That cowl rust looks very bad, but if the car drives and has all the vin stickers, it should be able to fetch 15-20k.

Guys....it's just a car. Driven daily by a lady for 30 years. What did you think it would look like?
