Default Smartycam Questions

Yesterday was my first trip to the track with the Smartycam/Solo 2 DL combo. Per usual, there are some kinks to work out. Curious about those here who have already fine-tuned the setup.

1) The sound is terrible, guessing I'll need to go to an external mic and use foam around it to block wind noise? Any recommendations?

2) Is there any ability to modify the gauges/etc that show up on screen after recording or does that have to be done prior? Seems like it's permanently "imprinted" on the video. I was expecting it to be a bit more dynamic with the ability to edit/move around on the screen etc.

3) The MPH didn't work some reason, but it was working on my Solo 2. Can I get the GPS MPH feed from the Solo to transmit to the Smartycam or do I need to get the external GPS attachment for the camera itself?

4) Will I need to install potentiometers to get brake/throttle data?

Think that's it for now... but I may have to update once I finish going through the data/video files!

Edit: Thinking this may be the solution for sound, strategically placed in the car and wrapped with foam? https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...asp?RecID=8443

1) I had to go with external mike. I ended up putting mine on top of intake manifold.

2). Not sure if there is a way to modify afterwards but I assume not. Again, the beauty of the Smartycam is set it and forget it once you get it set up.

3). Speed (and throttle) will work. You have to go to Smartycam config file and make sure it's all pointed to the right channels from you DL2. Different ECU's have different names, so you have to get the right stuff for E46 M3. We don't get brake pressure but you can use Long G's.

Thanks, external mic it is. I've got the DL2 programmed for the BMW/Mini ECU, will go back and check the smartycam config on RW3 again... thought I had it right, but obviously not. Pretty sure my DL2 is pulling speed from GPS.

After a fair amount of time editing the sound... originally there wasn't a single part of the video where you could hear anything but wind noise. Brutal.

I am sure you have the DL2 set up correctly. You have to also specify in the SmartyCam Functions in RaceStudio to which channel to use for speed and throttle. These have to be mapped so that Smartycam knows what goes where. See Page 11 in attached manual.

Cool, thanks! Didn’t get this stuff in the car until 9pm Friday night... definitely needed a troubleshooting session prior to Saturday! Also incorrectly assumed I'd be able to play with the overlay and corresponding data after the fact... oh well.

Hopefully all set now.

for Brake Pressure you'll need to use Longitudinal G's or something like it.

Look forward to seeing your videos.
