Ouch - next time just go buy a HF engine hoist and bring one of the coupons and I think it comes to 120 bucks or so if you catch a sale as well.

Started with overheating while on track and consuming coolant. I think water was leaking past the head gasket on the side that got cooked. The other broken piece may have been from the top ring seizing.

Car ran surprisingly well with all of that damage!

That was the original plan but when I got to HF they were out of stock! Rental was only $30 so it worked out well.

Sorry to hear man, but glad you are able to fix and document. Cylinder 2? Vox had two engines with something going on with Cylinder 2 as well... coincidence?

Cleaned the block and measure the flatness, everything looked good.

Made some progress today. Got all of the accessories off the block and removed the oil pump and pistons. Lesson learned: take off the rear seal before putting engine on stand... Also need to rig up a crank lock so I can get the crank/harmonic balancer bolts loose.

Rod bearings looked decent. #1:

I tend to go to Yorktown C&c too, can I join the fun

And rob, that steering wheel is amazing! Might get one exactly like that but with a different color stripe and e92 thickness

Quick pic of cylinder #2. Wavy damage at the top of the bore but from what I can measure should be okay for an over bore to 87.25mm.

Decided to go with the following:
  • Mahle 87.5 Pistons and rings, stock compression
  • Stock used rods

Dropped off the block this morning at Bobs Automotive Machine Shop (thanks Ben @ Rogue for the recommendation). Should have everything back next week!

Got the block back! .006 taken off the top of the block and 87.5 bore/hone. Crank and mains looked good and didn't need any machining. Used rods all checked out and they have been balanced. Now need to order main bearings, clean up the garage, and start putting this back together!

Needs a clean up!
