Default Got another one - S50B30 content

Picked this up a few weeks ago - still getting to know the car.

It's a bit infamous locally - "the story" is that the OG owner wanted a euro m3 that he couldn't have so he built one. Brand new 325is was converted to "m3" spec with a crate motor supposedly warmed over by Racing Dynamics.

I don't know how much of that is true, but the car is fast, and the period RD parts are pretty cool

Very interesting to drive this thing back to back w my S52. No question this is a faster car, but I'm not sure that makes it better. As far as street cars go, I think the S52 is just as fun to hoon around in. I spent the day in the euro car today and was completely unable to find any open road to really use it. Not a ton of fun as a light to light car.

Plan is to strip the parts off I don't like (already in progress) and clean it up for some auto-x next spring. If it doesn't live up to the euro hype, I'll move on.

Here it is with the fleet

It's go some cool geek parts - lots of 90's RD carbon

it stops well:

the real reason for it's purchase

Lots of work to come - right now it feels a little squirrly under power. I need to get it up on a lift to see what's going on with bushings etc.

Cool car.

Is that a Racing Dynamics coil cover?

I don’t think I ever mentioned this, but on seeing hundreds of E36 engine bay (pics) regardless the model or engine, on 99% of them, the left rubber cable feed coming out of the big wire box under the wipers, has faded to white-ish. But never the other side. Still in the dark as to why.

it's got a bunch of cool RD parts - including that engine cover. I see it's starting to delam a bit, I'll look into stripping it - maybe powdercoat.

No euro floating rotors, but this brembo kit seems o provide plenty of braking power

Lots of interior bits - the door panel inserts are my fav. Never seen another set myself.

RD mirrors - it's got a few aero bits, but not all. Wing and skirts. I think it would be really cool to source some more K30 bits - some are still available actually. I don't really want this thing to look like an M3

I just want to make it a little more my own. Eyebrows have come off already, I want to ditch the angel eye depos and just have regular e codes. Different wheels - I love ARC-8's, but not this big (18x9.5!) and not black.

The grey interior is growing on me, but I still may swap some stuff to black. I already ditched the Sparco bucket it came with and I need to get a hold of sheppott to get a new wheel.

More pics and progress to follow.

I think you also need to point out
POWER REAR WINDOWS!!!! I ****ing love those things.
Also, OEM rear sunshade.
This car is a time machine back to 1995. Its a great pick up. Also, early cars didn't get the floating rotors anyways, so you don't miss out on those with the Brembo swap anyways.

You don’t see much RD stuff. Pretty cool. RD wheels would complete the whole look.
Never seen those doorcard inserts.

Looks like 840i Brembo calipers. Nice.

Congrats! Avus blue with the S50 is superb. Most of the RD parts work well on this car. I was thinking they were going to be more tacky like some of the AC stuff. I'd probably lose the shift knob and replace with stock. OE silver wheels would look the part and maybe risers for the wing. Looking forward to the updates.

the shift knob it actually pretty nice - old school UUC. but i'd toss a zhp knob on there given the opportunity.

wheels - I'm actively selling the ARC-8's. I have a set of square 17" BBS RK's that I'm not using - they'll prob end up on this car, or a set of square 8.5 contours. RD's would sort of play to the theme of the car though.

I have a GT2 wing sans risers in the stash (thanks westopher!) but part of me likes the period RD wing. It's sagging a bit though and i don't know if that's fixable. I was thinking about putting a small riser block under it - 99% out of sight to level it out.

Lots to do - and the biggest problem with adding another one is 3x the little things budget, but I would like to get this one cleaned up by spring if possible.

Solid, SOLID pick up! Looks like a well put together car, looking forward to seeing what else you end up doing to it.
