Good list, but surprised that the 2-series didn't make it.

Yes, I agree that’s surprising.

The new Civic Type R is ugly but it’s anything but boring:

I couldn’t think of any other new car that I would rather buy for $40K or less than a Golf R.

shouldn't a requirement of making the list of "BEST" cars be that the car doesn't leave halfway thru the testing on a flat bed?

Yes, they are also two different colored Ghoulias.

but, from the 3 C&D articles previous to 10Best:

Quote:
While a new one hasn’t yet stranded us, every Giulia we’ve driven outside of a press event has been finicky.

But on the first day of damp lapping, the Alfa began acting as if it were suffering from fuel starvation in the tight left-hand Turn 4, even as its gauge indicated a quarter-tank of gas. This can happen when driving a street car on a track, so we didn’t think much of it. But then it happened again in the same spot, with three-quarters of a tank. And again in the right-hand Oak Tree.

After remote-starting the engine one cold morning, the check-engine light flickered on and the driver information screen displayed a warning that the engine and the throttle-control unit needed service. The car was completely drivable and exhibited no strange behavior other than restricting us to what felt like the Advanced Efficiency driving mode.

Another reminder that we were in an Italian car hit us when we briefly warmed up the Giulia using the remote-start feature. After we entered the car and pushed the start button, the Alfa died. A quick restart illuminated the check-engine light and brought up two messages: “Service Electronic Throttle Control” and “Service Engine.” The Giulia still drove, but it wouldn’t move out of its low-boost advanced-efficiency mode.

My take away from that would be, the other options must be amazingly awful to drive for that level of reliability to be acceptable.
