My gut says that the car would be slower. Without doing the match id guess that the 444 essentially drops you a whole tranny ratio, turning it into a 5 spd. You'd get the same effect with stock gears using the next lower tranny gear for a given speed, except you retain a useful overdrive and first.

Shorter is not always fast, as proven over and over at the drag strip. You want to be in the lowest gear possible for as long as possible for maximum speed. Each time you're forced to up shift you lose a bit of thrust.

I have 4.10's in my daily M3 and just like Mr Wolfe and Tbone mentioned, they are a bit of a pain when you are driving 80 miles a day on the freeway. They do make passing a breeze, but the drone is just insane for a daily.....and I have a stock muffler.

I love my 4.10s for my non daily/ city cruiser. I’ve done various 1 hour trips and also have made several 250mi trips down south which was a non issue for me. I’m out of the drone zone for my exhaust at highway speeds.

Now 4.44s is another animal entirely that I’m curious about

I have stock exhaust as well but detect no drone.

I have a section two on the car (previous owner). I usually go about 80-90 (flow of traffic) from escondido to temecula. When the traffic is a bit slower, I have none

I think a 3.85 is the sweet spot for street car and a 3.73 for a track car. You can tune the FD ratio with tire size.

I don't think I'd mind a 3.91 or 4.10 on the street as long as you're not into ecodriving.

What tire size would you need on a e46 with a 4.1 to make it feel like a 4.44
