Trail* You want a new Trail Edition.

Yep. The first season was really cool, this second season is starting a little slow... but the episode of them modding the T4R's was cool.

I hate to admit it, but I use my 4runner like a soccer mom would. Mine is just for hauling stuff. Never taken it off road

If I got a new one, they are getting so expensive that I'd prob go basic and drive that sucker for 10 years minimum.

Haha, touche.

Actually a guy on T4R posted recently he paid 36k for his limited in 2000. You can get one for ~41k now (2k off MSRP is easy, its about 3 clicks on TrueCar, and you can negotiate further depending on dealer and location)... It doesnt seem all that bad to me.

Oh for sure, I think it's a lot of cars for the money. It's just that for me personally, it's a lot of money for a car that gets driven twice a week at the most. I think I'd be a little more comfortable with $30k which is about what the base one goes for.

I'll get flamed for this, I'm sure, but I'd be OK with the 2WD version

Great thread. Buddy in high school had a 2001 Land Cruiser. Loved that car. I want an LX470 myself.

Have to admit that when it comes to reliability, I've never been able to match the Toyotas I've had so far.

Bous, that 2 door 70 is beautiful, but the engine is worthless. You should definitely look to hook up with a D4D which I hear is a quite simple fit (biggest PITA is figuring out the immobilizer).

Anyway... this picture is my first Hilux, a 2.8 N/A Diesel with a measly 79 hp. It was a 99 model I bought new and sold it to a friend in 01, who kept it until 2011.

Here are a couple of my second Hilux. It was a 2001 with the 1KZTE 3.0 TD engine. Loads of torque, but horrible fuel economy.

How bad was fuel economy? See how many 20 liter jerrycans were in the back...

Yes, I know, wheels are supposed to be on the ground.

Moved to a color matched ARB bumper and a "Maggiolina" tent on top for long trips. Took this one on a longer trip to Bolivia and Peru.

In 05 I swicthed to the new Hilux with the 3.0 D4D engine. Incredible step forward in power and fuel economy.

Another pic with the removable winch mounted

And after the ARB Bull Bars were banned, moved into this supposedly legal front bumper

To this day, I still have this Hilux back in Argentina with about 300K kilometers of pure off road and expedition type travel use.

I'll post some pictures of the Land Cruisers later.

Yuuuuup.

Then you would only have to take the body off the frame and rust proof the crap out of it to have the perfect truck.
