Both my 328i and M3 are cabrio’s.

M3 is manual. The cabrio is listed 220 lbs heavier than a coupe with same tranny.

All SMG stuff, while extra weight nontheless, is not that big of a extra weight penalty.

Around 22lbs.

Wait, is the M3 manual or auto? Or do you have multiple M3s?

Interesting that the e36 SMG gubbins only add 22 lbs-- on the e46 they're 35 lbs. I would have expected them to be pretty similar.

The EU3.2 has shorter gearing 1-4, 5 always being 1:1 and being a true overdrive to offset the lower 1-4.

Final drive is 3.23 for both.

My take is the US feels more grunty down low, because it lacks the top end of the EU motor.

It's essentially the same gearbox as the 328. Maybe has a shorter selector rod or something.

Gear ratios are essentially the same from 1-5

ZF5: 4.20, 2.49, 1.66, 1.24, 1.00 (5)
420g: 4.227, 2.528, 1.669, 1.226, 1.000, 0.828
