Default 2008 M3 pre purchase inspection

I am looking at purchasing a 2008 BMW M3 automatic with 82,000 miles. I live in Charlotte, NC. I would like to have the car inspected before making a decision to purchase the vehicle. Can anyone recommend a mechanic whom can do pre purchase inspection?

Take it to the closet BMW dealer. Also have them run a service report (free) on the car. This way you can check the repair history on the car.

But don't have any BMW stealer do the PPI - that's a no-no.

That just does not make any sense. Unless the car is being sold by them why would they not do a good job. Does not make any sense.

From what I have read, they don't check details or areas where there are known issues. For example, the subframe cracks on the e46. Many people were ok'd by the dealership's ppi only for the owner to find cracks after.

Thanks for the heads up. I know what this forum thinks is an issue may not be what BMW thinks is an issue. I have always been very specific on what I wanted covered on a PPI. I have used dealers many times and have not had a problem. They were very detailed and followed my instructions to the tee for both my e46 then my e92.

At the very least get the vin number and call a dealer to get a full service report. I have had not problem getting them to talk to me about the car especial if they sold the car.

Ask them about these problem areas:

TVA service/DME error codes
Rod Bearings
Leaking DCT pan (Common on all DCTs)
DCT mechatronic sleeve gasket leaking or replaced (2008 orange is known to leak)

Good luck!

Hendrick BMW is a good dealer, I think they will treat you right on the inspection.
