Default Trailer Question - can I sue stock if i change the muffler?

I'm in need of a trailer hitch and like the westfalia solution and looking at the simplest... if it works.

Use the Curt unit for the e46 non m3 cars and get a simple exhaust set up. Lighter weight solutions from megan and bimmerworld look okay to me.

Will this work? Anyone with first hand experience?

I believe there was a member on here that did a westfalia install, I don't recall which exhaust he had but the end result was very clean. HE would remove the diffuser when installing the hitch and then reinstall it when the ball was removed (it's a J or U shape).

Thanks for the response and I did see the westfalia solution. Clean install and seems a little expensive. I was thinking that I'd set up a single tail pipe while and run a stock e46 cheapie hitch. Just wondering if it is only the issue of the giant exhaust vs the non m3 exhausts that have the extra room.

With the WF solution - make sure what you are pulling is small and light - like a small, lightweight tire trailer. That solution is not meant to pull anything more. Some feel it is a borderline for even that. I would inspect everything for cracks a few times each year.

I wouldn't recommend anything less than the WF design.

Honestly you should probably buy a tire roof rack that carries tires over the trailer.

Best solution is buying an old cheap SUV/Pick up Truck with a cheap trailer to trailer your M3 and whatever else.

The cheap E46 hitches mount to the spare tire well which the M3 does not have. I wouldn't want to hack up my cars body anyway, plus it seems very sketchy to have it mounted to sheet metal. I wouldn't do anything less than the westfalia.

I drove an M3 with 4 track tires on a roof rack once, and it was absolutely miserable. I didn't feel comfortable going over ~60 on the highway.

I disliked it almost as much as I disliked towing my car to the track. Super happy I'll never be doing that, again.

Best solution is 4 tires in the back seat, secured with the back seat seat belts
