Default Brake light/running light block off plate?

I was poking around my taillights today, and on the fixtures that attach to the trunk lid there appear to be another bulb location that has been blocked off on purpose. I am curious if this is normal, a US spec thing or what.

Is it possible to cut or pull the blank sheet metal circuit bypass, install a bulb and not have any warnings pop up?

I assume its another running light/brake light for the boot lid lamp fixture.

I just replaced my tail lights the other day with the Khoalty eagle eye smoked version and I was wondering the exact same thing! It's so weird to me how the trunk tail light/reverse light bulb housing setup is and how it seems there is a bulb missing from there, basically the trunk light non-reverse light little rectangle is all just a reflecting bezel.

That's what you're talking about right?

Yes. exactly.

I just don't want to do something irreversible by breaking the tabs, then blowing a fuse or throwing a dash light due to the added resistance in the circuit from adding another bulb.

Just looking to see if anyone knows what the deal is with this "blank" and if it's o.k. to remove it and jam a bulb in there?

Aha! Thanks so that means coding is most likely required to get it functioning properly. I prolly wont mess with it. Thanks for the info.

I believe it might not require coding, but you would need a euro LCM faceplate with the rear fog button.

Yeah kinda funny story my 01' always had LED tails ever since I got it, never bothered to check what brand or anything but figured they were certainly not
oe leds. Fast forward to a couple months ago I had someone out on the road pull up and tell me I had a brake light out, so I check it out and my running taillights were working fine, but as soon as I applied the brakes the passenger side would cut out completely (even the standard running light) not activating the duel filament or however they work for the extra brighter light upon braking.

Then I noticed something even more peculiar, anytime I put the key in ignition and turn the lights on, my hazard lights would flash quickly a few times... No indication anything was happening on the gauge cluster, but I had my buddy tinker with the lights while I watched and they would quickly flash the hazards everywhere including side-markers. So I'm just like wtf is happening, my turn signals worked fine, standard hazards via center console button worked fine, couldn't figure out why this quicker succession flashing of the hazards maybe 3 times was happening when I first turned the lights on.

Shotgun approach sayin "f*** it" I just go and order up a whole new set of eagle eye smoked rear LED tails from Khoalty (bit more expensive for the convertibles which is a slap in the face haha) once I receive and am installing them I see that the jacked up ones already in my car are eagle eyes as well!!! Go figure! After getting them in with the super bright white reverse light bulb upgrade too, I cross my fingers and fire it up and everything worked perfectly! No more phantom hazard quick flash, no more brake light cut out.

No clue what the heck was happening with that last set, but hopefully these new eagles will last at least couple years. Probably cause the last sets clear lenses weren't smoked, felt so ugly it just decided to malfunction itself to get uninstalled and thrown in the garbage where it belongs haha j/k j/k
