Default 2004 M3- airbag reset tool

I apologize if this has been beaten to death, but have done a few searches on forum, as well as online. My 04 M3 had a loose passenger seat wire under it. Have reattached but have an airbag light. Since I dread taking car to dealership I still had the re-call due on my airbags, so figured since they had to replace the airbags they could reset at same time and it would all be covered. Yeah... no... charged me 129.00 to reset airbag light...

Well, climbed in car today and airbag light is on.

I'll re-check all the wires, but I'll be damned if I'll pay another 129.00 for them to reset it.

I checked online and every tool that comes up as a reset tool for this year, when you read the description of the tool it specifically says up to 2003.

Can someone advise what tool resets this?

I cant seem to find it online. Sorry if this is an old topic!

Hal

So, look at bmw scanner tool if you want something cheap and have a laptop handy. You can also look into “mycarly” for bmw but at that point I would dish out the extra $100 or so and get the really nice schwaben code reader from ecs. Really power tool there. “Prosumer” grade. I own all three and wish I would have just gotten the schwaben from the start.

https://www.bcables.com/

~$40 and gives you BMW's full diag/reset suite and coding ability.

Assuming you have a windows laptop of windows VM on a mac laptop.

This is awesome, thank you! I had to pay the dealer to reset the parking brake code on the X3 after doing a brake job myself

I would also consider purchasing from bimmergeeks. He flashes his cables with improved firmware (not super relevant to the E46 generation cars, but makes for faster and more reliable flashing on newer cars), and he'll help you acquire and setup all the relevant software. His cables also have a built in selector switch so that you don't have to solder pins 7 and 8 together.

Full disclosure: I'm friendly with the owner and I helped him set up and debug his flashing apparatus. I have received one cable as a gift, but otherwise do not draw any sort of income or other compensation

Not saying his cable isn’t better, but the one I linked also has the selector switch if you get the silver cable! (No soldering required)

...and it comes with an idiot proof installer cd for all the software!

Ah fair enough, I didn't look all that carefully :P. In all likelihood, the hardware is likely the same, it's the software (which is a bit of a pita to flash) that's different.

I do think $45 ends up being cheaper than 40GBP though

While on topic: if OEM front seats are removed and replaced _ shouldn’t be a residual lingering airbag light after right? Should battery be disconnected?

As long as you don't turn on the ignition at any point, the light shouldn't come on.
