Default Smg paddle delete? aftermarket wheel?

Saw this today on a show car e46 M3. Appears as though he has an smg and put an aftermarket wheel on. It never occurred to me before that this would actually work but you would need to drive with the shifter only? Maybe someone can post the picture. Strange

Yes shifter only. And it looks terrible.

That poor car, the interior trim painted galaxy metallic barf.... air suspension and I'm SURE it has like orange wheels.

Also why would you want to do this? the oem paddles are so small anyway, it's just headache, cost, and you lose the ability to hold the left paddle to use the hill hold function.

Works Bell makes a steering wheel quick release with paddle shifters.

The paddles are just electric switches, smg can work perfectly fine without them.

the other option is to use an aftermarket wheel that has an accessory plate readily available, or make your own (they are usually just flat, just make a cardboard template and cut it out of whatever material you have on hand).

Most off-the-shell accessory plates would be uncomfortable for the constant use the paddles see -- but if you make your own plate then you can accommodate yourself however needed.

The Works Bell solution is really nice, but its $$$ and it requires the use of a boss that extends the wheel out further from the column. The switches on it feel really nice, though.

if I were to make my own like the picture attached i'd place the shifter buttons closer to driving hand positions.
