What do you think the IS350, say in comparison to the M3?

Ive been actually looking into S2000s recently. Seems like I can snatch one for under 10 grand nowadays, and I really want one. How would you compare it to the M3?

The S2k was my car for 3 years, I bought it brand new. Then when I paid it off I gave it to my wife and bought the M3 which I've now owned for almost 3 years so I have a good amount of time driving each. We swap cars every once in a while when the weather's nice so I can enjoy the vert.

The AP2 S2k (04+) is all I have experience with. That's when they increase engine size to 2.2L to give it more torque but lowered redline to 8k from 9k in the 2L AP1.

The S2k is much more fun to drive, it's extremely agile and responsive. The shifts are light, short and precise. The best shifting tranny I've ever experienced. I couldn't stand the way my M3 shifted when I first bought it because I was used to driving an S2k. It gets decent gas mileage, I average 27 mpg when I DD it, my wife gets a little better since she doesn't drive it as hard as I do. It's also extremely reliable, the most reliable car I've owned to date. Just change the fluids and forget about it.

Now the bad- it is gutless compared to my M3. I can't imagine how weak the AP1 feels if I think the AP2 is gutless. I used to think it had decent power until I bought the M3. It has electric steering so the steering feel is numb. The chassis is so lively and suspension so stiff that the numb steering gets masked to most people. I didn't realize this until I bought the M3 and drove the M3 for a while. Then I started noticing how much more feedback the steering in the M3 gives. The S2k also has a lot of road noise. The soft top has almost no sound insulation so driving on the highway gets old. A combination of road noise and hearing every semi that goes by wears on you. The stereo system is horrible. My S2k has speakers integrated into the roll hoops and I still can't hear the stereo on the highway over the road noise. Turn it up too loud and you get wicked distortion. The soft top rattles over bumps and rough roads.

I love both cars, they're just very different. I guess it comes down to what you're looking for. The S2k has a more fun driving experience great for weekend cruises but the M3 has tons more power, more steering feedback and luxury more suited for DD.
