They are not "that" close, however it's better than the 335i.

You are right Oscar. If you look at the Nurburgring times, the 335i does a 8:26, the E46 does a 8:22 and the E92 does a 8:05. All with the same driver.

not be a stickler here...but you didnt mention a critical piece of info. the e92 was on Cup+ tires which account for a better time of 7 seconds. has the m3 been on regular ps2s, time would have been 8:10-8:12. just setting facts straight, thats all.

Where does it say the E92 was on cup tires at the Nurburgring? This was a magazine test of productions cars. You may be right but I have searched like crazy and cannot find where it says the E92 was run on anything other than stock rubber. Do you make this stuff up?

After I posted this I read that the fastest time they recorded in the M3 was in full auto mode.
Get the kinks out of the DCT!
What do you guys think..over a 4+ mile course can a fully funtional DCT be worth 1+ seconds?

Randy Pobst doing the MT test said he would have also been faster with the 6MT because he was more used to racing a manual and the M3 still posted a very good time.

first things first. I said cup+ (thats cup plus, say it with me) tires. and they are good for 5-7 seconds...if you are familiar with them, they are not as grippy as an r comp but more so than a standard ps2.
and heres the link...the article is also linked in there where is says they were pilot cup sport tires.
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...7&postcount=38

so had the m3 been on regular ps2s, its time would have been 8:10-8:12.

Gotta hand it to Cadillac for making the CTS-V. At least they are headed in the right direction for performance. They could have just gone the easy route and just made Cruisemobiles, but they didn't. Hats off to Caddy.

E46 M3 C63 AMG

Tsukuba: 1:07.11 1:07.373
Hockenheim Short: 1:16.3 1:15.2
Vairano Handling Course: 1:22.599 1:21.641
Autozeitung test track: 1:44.5 1:40.0

Pretty damn impressive given the engine disparity, and it also gives one an idea where a E46 M3 would fall in the Lightning Lap Challenge.

Default M-DCT: Epic Fail

The Lightening Lap was an epic fail for M-DCT; there's no way to defend this: "[O]ur best lap was acheived in automatic mode." ftw

In my mind, the stock went up on the following cars:

>GT-R (even with the weight, markup, and tranny/reliability issues, it's still only 1 sec. behind the $250k Scuderia )

>C63 (0.9 sec. behind the M3, but 8 sec. ahead of IS-F. IS-F also lost to 135 and should be excluded from all future comparisons with the M3 or C63!)

>CTS-V (bested the M3 by 1.6 sec. which is a larger margin than the M3 beat the C63. Saying the CTS is faster simply becuase it has more horsepower is silly. People totally ignore the fact that 1. GM improved the CTS chassis on the Ring, and 2. the M3 is faster than the M5/M6 on the Ring although they both have more horsepower and more weight. For 60k a CTS is gonna give an M3/M5/M6 a fit on the track and on the road it will be more comfortable, spacious, and luxurious.)

>Cobalt SS(beat the IS-F by a full second)
