Default Front aggregate protective plate - OEM Metal Skid plate

I was sifting ecs looking for a new belly pan/ski plate

I saw this listed under e46 m3

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/51717028893/

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_3283

Shows up on real oem as Front aggregate protective plate

What is this? What is it for, never seen it nor can find anything about it.

EDIT: Bimmerworld has a good description of what it is:

https://www.bimmerworld.com/Body-Aer...5xi-330xi.html

his part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 51717028893 (51 71 7 028 893) and is described as Genuine BMW Front Aggregate Protective Plate (a skid plate, or sorts) made for 2001-2006 model E46 3 series (this is the late version). This includes E46 M3, 325i, 325xi, 325Ci, 330i, 330xi, 330Ci models, as offered in the 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

This metal protective skid plate was design by BMW to be used in areas of the word where driving on harsh or loosely paved roads were common. It can be added to any later model E46 for additional protection, and is great if you frequently drive on dirt or gravel surfaces.

This stamped steel plate bolts to the underside of your 03/2001 production and newer E46 3 series, attaching to the front subframe, beneath the engine bay, and gives extra protection for gravel, stones or hard road debris - much like a skid plate. All it takes is just one unfortunate piece of rock or road debris kicking up into your engine bay and hitting a critical component in the cooling or belt system to leave you stranded. The factory plastic under tray is made of soft and loose plastic, and is known for breaking and coming completely off. This factory skid plate may be a wise investment if you need additional protection from high-speed road debris.

Not for cars produced before 3/2001 - All 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 models should work, but owners of 2001 models will need to check their production date, found on the driver's door jamb VIN plate, usually formatted as 10/00 (October 2000) or 5/01 (May 2001). Any date before 03/01 will need the early style protective plate, part # 51718218384 (and not this one).

There is an aluminum reinforcement plate that goes under the engine that is bolted in with 12 M12 bolts.

The plastic shield that goes between the bumper and screws into the aluminum reinforcement plate is called the engine screening cover.

I believe front aggregate protector is a non-M term for the reinforcement plate.

this will not fit the E46 M3, t it's for the regular E46 3 series

That whole section of realoem is a little wonky foe for the e46 M3. My guess is that this would not fit and that was a mislisting by BMW that has since been perpetuated by the places selling it.

Iím pretty sure that is a non-sense part. The non-Ms have a front reinforcement which is similar to the M plate except there itís missing 2 holes for the FCAB housings and the ///M stamping.

Then thereís the engine screening cover. Letís say it took 2 returns to Tischer to get the part that I wanted on my 330ci.
