Default Instrument cluster just goes dead.

Happens fairly regularly, lasts for a minute or two, then everything lights up and viola, everything works again. Doesn't seem to be set off by anything, just cruisin along and all the sudden, all needles just stop working, like it was turned off. Doesn't seem to effect anything else, car runs fine while it's happening.

you might have a loose connection in the back, pull the cluster out and check all the connection.

Yeah, done that. I think it's something with the fuses, maybe a cracked fuse block. It's got some electrical gremlins, tach stops workin, once I pull a fuse or two and push back in, it's all good.

Just thought that someone here hasd seen it, I would guess it's a pretty common problem since both our E36 cars do it.

My 95' has the same problem.

Only item I wanted to check was my radio( Alpine installed by a PO).

Please let me know what corrective actions you have taken and if you have solved.

How big a job is it to replace the fuse box?

Mine does that as well. Last maybe 5-10 seconds, happens a few times a month but doesn't affect anything.
