E46 M3 in general is the pinnacle of BMW ///M's in my opinion.

When Mercedes engineers wanted a new series of engines years ago, they were told 'no' by the bean counters. 'Just refine the old ones, they're really good' they were told. They worked a few weeks and produced cars for the upper echelon to drive (with hoods unable to be opened). When they came back they said "Wow, this is great! What did you do?" They opened the hoods and showed them the BMW engines in there. They got their development money for new engines!

Everyone who owns this car should have to watch that video.

My only recommendation is to be careful breaking up the lines of the e46 too much with CF. The lines are beautiful and many people have successfully screwed up the flow with CF. There is NOTHING in the price range like a cleanly modded e46 M3.

Good luck and congrats.

clean car, i wouldn't mess with the exterior too much, MAAAAYBE CSL rear end (diffuser/trunk).

Interior upgrades (looks fairly used: center console:csl if you can afford it?, arm rest, two tone leather, floor mats), and then

Work your way to the engine: a Gruppe M intake and ebay headers to help you in the performance dept since you're coming from 460hp. Then get an exhaust system and start saving for a turbo kit.
