I had a problem with going from first to second and I changed to Redline D4 ATF and it is night and day difference.

If it were me, I would remove the CDV first. Simple job and makes a huge difference on engagement and speed of the clutch. It may solve your issues like it did for me. Then I would do fluid.

Definitely CDV delete and fluid first.

How will removing clutch delay valve solve what op stated as his problem, which is fighting the stick while shifting gears and not being able to get it into gear? It is a 1-way restrictor, so disengaging the clutch is not impacted (fighting the stick to get it into gear happens with clutch disengaged), while engaging the clutch is where cdv comes into play and slows down the clutch engagement speed to take off stress off the drivetrain.

OP didn't say that his clutch engagement feels like it is too slow even if he dumps the clutch or feels like maybe clutch is worn or slipping and he is trying to figure out how to get it to engage quicker.

I might be misunderstanding the recommendation though?

maybe while you in there replace engine mounts and gearbox mounts if it hasn't already been done. then New oil and CDV delete, that should be a worthwhile service and from there you can look at other options if needed.

One method to create a differential diagnosis for this problem is to recreate the issue and then immediately turn the car off and attempt to shift into the problem gears. This can help determine if the problem is hydraulics related. Things like the cdv (although more likely a ballooning old clutch line) can cause the car to have these issues when warm only and while the car is running only.

Much smoother shift after not being able to go from 1st to 2nd most of the time when I was shifting fast. I had already done the CDV delete, new clutch line, new motor mounts, new transmission mount, new clutch and pressure plate. I did not do all the other work because of the shifting problems, but because they needed it.
