Default 1998 E36 M3 wont crank.

I've been having this problem for a while now, if I let the car sit outside in the heat all day and then try to crank it, it absolutely will not crank. It doesn't roll over or anything. It might be a failing starter but I'm just not sure, my dash lights up and I get power but nothing. If the car stays in my basement, it will crank first time no problem, every time.

I'm just trying to find out as to why it does this, I thought possibly it could be the vapor lock or a failing coolant temperature sensor, but I don't smell any fuel when I try to crank it.

I'd love to have some input on this issue so that I can resolve it.

not a crank position sensor... that has to do with monitoring the speed of the engine for fuel delivery and timing etc....

I'd place a bet on your starter beginning to go out...
