Default Quick, cheap, and easy VANOS oil pressure gauge

After installing my new cams I tested the VANOS. It was a bit slow to respond and Hassan thought the pressure might be a little low. The easiest is to pay $250 for a commercial solution. The cheapest was to drill and tap a vanos bolt and use a mixture of adapters to add a gauge to it.

I decided to look for an easier, cheaper solution and found one.

This banjo bolt and this gauge go right together and fit perfectly. The bolt has fewer side holes and I was lucky enough that one pointed directly down the line to the accumulator.

All in it is just over $40. The worst part is waiting a week and a half for the bolt to arrive from the UK.

Good find, I did the same thing but used the bolt from an old SMG GPS

What’s a healthy pressure for the vanos? Idle and at specific rpms.

FYI, here's a gauge that reads both PSI and bar.

"Valley Instrument Grade A Stem Mount 2 1/2in. Glycerin Filled Gauge — 0-3,000 PSI"

https://www.northerntool.com/shop/to..._357906_357906

Edit: looks like a 1/4" NPT female to 1/8" NPT male adapter will be needed to work with the banjo bolt in the OP

Note that is not the right size to fit this bolt directly.

Are there any digital sensors that can fit there? Would be interesting to log the pressure while driving.

They seem to exist. This is the first one I turned up after a quick Google search but it seems fairly expensive and would still need to be connected to something to record the pressures.
