Default What are these covers for?

Part #9 in this diagram: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_3278

Both front wheel arches have the little covers where the brake cooling ducts exit. The left and the right covers are different parts with the left cover has a small opening while the right cover is solid. Why the need to cover up the brake cooling ducts?

IDK why they come with the car stock, but I need a pair of the solid ones if anyone wants to sell me a set!

I threw mine out 15 years ago to use the stock brake cooling, but now that I have real forced in brake ducting I'd rather clean up the airflow in my fenders!

I don't know if brake needs to be warm, but maybe the covers are installed in winter to prevent mud filled ducts by the wheels.

I mean warm up faster for better/faster operation for those in cold climates...

It's just a guess. We may never know. I removed mine 10 years ago and haven't thought about them since.

Ill check when I get home, but I actually may have two full sets. So if you need one of the right side (I'm sure it works on both sides)fully blocked off ones I may have one I can send you.

They are stone guards to keep stones from lodging between the pad and rotor. Punched mine out long ago. Prolly lying about somewhere.

No, these covers on the leading edge of the wheel arch and so it has nothing to do with brake rotor.
