Exclamation Need a volunteer in/near Redwood City, CA!

Hello everyone,

Shaikh/Fat Cat Motorsports is putting together a spread sheet that'll really let us (e46 M3 owners) take suspension tuning, at any price point, to the next level: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=601913

But, for this spread sheet to be meaningful/useful, he needs to take some measurements of an e46 M3-- ideally one with stock sway bars (though not necessary if there aren't any).

His schedule is pretty flexible, including weekends.

No alternations will be made to your car-- he just needs to jack it up and take some measurements.

Any volunteers?

TIA!

I live in SF (only 30min) and will be working in Redwood Shores (next city over) and can volunteer. If itís a weekend, no problem too.

I donít have stock sways on (they are in storage) but i could bring them, if he needs to measure or whatever.

Bringing the sways would be even more useful than having them on the car!

Thanks Obioban. Zivagolee, do you have OE shocks/springs or aftermarket? Along with measuring the OE sway bars, I want to check the M3 front motion ratio. To make this easier, I'd prefer to do that on a vehicle with aftermarket coil-over suspension (shorter springs NOT under preload) so we don't need to use the spring compressor.

A few scenarios are possible:

1. Someone in the SF Bay area with a E46 M3 and aftermarket coil-over comes to my shop in Redwood City where I do the front strut/spring motion ratio measurements.

2. Someone in the SF Bay area with an E46 M3 and OE suspension gets their car set up at their house/garage/shop and I go there to do the MR measurements.

3. Obioban does the MR measurements later in the year (and also adds corner weight data from his new scales!).

4. I work with Edge Mtn View to get MR measurements on one of their E46 M3 race cars.

Edge is pretty busy with lift time but I've pinged Anthony to see if he has a car I could measure in the near future. Barring that, I'll wait for someone with c/o to offer to come by. Then, could visit someone's house (option 2) for measurements, or Obioban makes the MR measurements himself (option 3).

The tool is accurate-enough as-is (per the feedback of many people who have softened front springs and/or stiffened rear to get Flat Ride working for them) but we'll make it even more accurate soon enough!

I have Broadway 500S coilovers with 5Ē springs so I am assuming option 1 here. I gave my info to Obioban so I can bring it by whenever you have time.

Thanks for the replies, ziva & mrg. Great that you both have c/o's. I'd like to run dynos on a front and rear E46 M3 Ohlins, so that would help me add some additional shock dyno data to our testing database. We can test the Broadway units, too.

We could work it out so both of you come by, I do the measurements on mrg's M3 and do some dyno tests as well and supervise measurements on z's M3. I've got enough jack stands for 2 cars so we could have two people doing simultaneous measurements on two vehicles to see how much difference we get. I've never done that before!

I only have one low-profile jack and we need one per car to do measurements so I'd need one of you to bring a jack. Whatever spare sways you have, or any take-off shocks/struts in your garage, I can measure/test those too.

I'm available this or next weekend, so let me know if you guys have any preference. I'd budget about 4 hours and we can work in parallel. We can bring one car in the garage, and the other can be right outside the shop. I'd want to start around 10-11am to finish before it gets dark.

I do have a low profile jack that I could bring as well.
