Talking New exhaust= 1.5 mpg better average!!!

took the m3 to Houston for the Supra national event, before the exhaust went on I averaged 16 mpg city, after exhaust city went to 16.8 but I had never got her out on a road trip. 200 miles i got 21.5 average and that included stop and go traffic for 45 minutes. The prototype exhaust that is on the car continues to impress me, horsepower numbers coming next week. But this proves flow is quite a bit better than stock and the 40 pound weight reduction doesnt hurt either...

Please explain (in detail) how an after market performance exhaust system is supposed to improve gas mileage?

Weight and flow from what I am told. Not sure how true it is, but that's what the exhaust shop tells me.

On board ECU or actual calculations based on useage calculating miles and gallons?

Either way, if it's just a catback...probably not...

oh yeah 20mph head wind the whole trip, and exhaust was free...we are developing this with www.boostlogic.com to sell nationally...
I have never got over 20 mpg even with a tail wind...proof is in the pudding...

really...

1.5mpg is WELL WITHIN the +/- differential when it comes to average mpg. With so many variables affecting gas mileage, I'd really love to hear how you came across this (unbiased) conclusion that it HAS to be the exhaust.

All I read is some guy trying to use every trick in the bag to sell an exhaust to a market already flooded with exhausts. Yeah, good luck
