Hmmm ok, worth giving it a try... Do you remember what size head of the screws that you used was?

Just take the old ones and get some just a little bigger....I had a bunch of screws in toolbox and I just looked until I found correct size...

Thanks bmwbob, but the fix on my original handle from above seems to be working out so far. If I need to fully replace the handle at some point, will keep yours in mind

Same thing happened to my buddies 2003. Just close the trunk from the two handle grooves on the inside trunk liner.

Thanks for the tip! Will do that or anything besides using the handle so I don't break it again lol

Default Re: Trunk Handle Falling Off?

I was able to separate the painted cover from the black inner part (which has the license plate lights, the ports for the mounting screws, and the trunk release button).

When you purchase the new trunk handle, the black inner part and the primed outer cover are separate. Take a look at the back of the cover to get an idea of how it clips/attaches to the inner black part. Then I used a blow dryer/heat gun to heat up the adhesive and then a small flathead screw driver to carefully pry at the various mounting points.

It took about an hour or so of fiddling around. I ended up using a dremal to cut away parts of the inner black handle where it clips to the cover to make it easier to separate.
