I believe an E46 vert is a tad over 3700lbs. Pretty much right in line with an E92 M.

lol, what are you everaging per tank? since you do alot of city driving?

Comparing vert to vert... My 2004 SMG M3 got 22-24 mpg and the 2009 DCT gets 18-20with a combined highway/rural drive. I find that in both cars, the computer stated average MPG was always about 1 MPG higher than what was actually calculated at fill-up. In both cars, I set the goal of getting over 300 miles on a tank. Only once have I got more than 350 miles on a tank in the e93 vert, but I used to do it almost half the time in the e46 vert.

Like others 12-14 in city, with lots of short distances, cold starts, etc. Best trip mileage, over 340 miles, was 24 mpg in Ohio/PA, fairly level, 70 mph. I just got 49 mpg on the same trip in my Prius.

No trouble getting 22 mpg at 75 mph. Key is not just speed but acceleration. If the slow poke hogging the fast lane makes you nuts and you floor it once he finally moves to the right, mileage will suffer (even in the Prius).

I didn't make up the number, it's 3527.4 lbs.

Of course, what sense does it make to compare weights of totally different E46s and E9Xs? The mileage will be in the mid-teens for the average driver with mixed city/ highway usage. Sucks, but who can say they're surprised? The gas guzzler tax is right there on the sticker. Funny thing is my mileage isn't much worst than my 650 vert that had no gas guzzler due to the steptronic tranny.

Just reporting in...

Now at 1100 miles the engine is settling in and I'm now getting much better mileage. For the first 600 I was getting well under 10 mpg (realistically around 7 or 8 ). Now I'm getting close to double that. The same trip that used a quarter gallon in the first week now uses less than an 8th.

At least I'm no longer worried that I'll need to fill up every other day, and its now in line with what I was expecting...

-David

Oh, and tomorrow is the 1200 mile service

When I got my car back from Europe, I started keeping track of my mileage on my phone. I tried to keep a little note to describe if the tank was spent mostly on "around the city" driving or on trips.

That includes a Thunderhill track day in there.

The average comes out to 15.349 mpg.

Over 9 mpg at T-Hill? I got 6.5 mpg at my last track day at Mid-O. Apparently accelerating to 90-135 mph then braking to 55 mph and then repeating is bad for mileage.

Haha, seriously!

I think about 14 miles of regular driving was mixed in with that 85 -- 7 miles to and from Willows.

I'm sure I didn't go all out either... only had the car for a few months in the states... nerves were akickin'. Plus, I have the E36 M for going all out.
