Which is obviously not “stock.” A “stock” m3 cannot do that from the factory

I hit 88 miles per hour then my car disappeared.

Play with the gearing calculator.

http://diffsonline.com/images/GearingCalculator.xls

Plug in your diff and tires. Use 5th gear 1:1 if you have a 5 speed ZF or Getrag.

The stock ecu controlled speed limit is 223km/h or 138mph.

I've gone to gear limited 3.23 + 310z when supercharged. It was really fun having the bypass valve blow off on the boost side at that speed.

Default Top speed?

Stock - 137mph by ECU limit, 142 mph gear limited redline with ECU speed limit removed.

That is incorrect. Gear limitation is right around edit: ~160mph @7k rpm with a 3.23 and 310/320z 5-speed. Most speed limit removal tunes increase rpm to 7k, and many go to 7200rpm. BMW isn't going to a put a 4mph speed cap on a "142mph" gear limitation...

That’s very accurate to my real time speed, I wasn’t using GPS or anything fancy so who knows what I actually was doing but the analog gauge looked like 156

Default Re: Top speed?

A stock car has a power peak around 6200 and drops off thereafter. At some point the dropping power and added drag may limit top speed even if the redline is raised. This is where power mods would help. In other words, I am not sure an E36M3 that is stock apart from removal of the speed limiter and raising the redline to 7200 will hit its theoretical maximum of 164 mph. Don’t know for sure but my guess is that more power is needed. Fortunately, I am making over 650 rwhp at 7200 rpm.
