Default VDO temp gauge/Mishimoto temp sender

I want to install a water temp gauge and was thinking of splicing the mishimoto cooling fan sender. Has anyone done this? The sender is a 2 wire so I'm a little confused on the wiring. I tried to use as signal and ground but no go on the gauge.

That isn't a temp sender, it's a heat activated switch. Buy an actual temperature sensor designed to work with the gauge you are using.
