Default E46 Brake Booster Compatible?

Hello peeps,

Does anyone know if the E46 brake booster fits the e36?

I know the mounting points on the firewall is the same. I just don't know if the overral daimeter might be a problem.

I'm trying to fix a low brake pedal in my car, which I have narrow down to a booster.

Anyone?

i don't think so, the master cyclinder mounts at a different angle. there are two kinds of E36 boosters. One with a travel sensor which the older cars have. The very latest E36s don't have the travel sensor so no port is needed in the booster.

Fortunately, you're in Europe. You can't get new ATE boosters (with travel sensor) in the US anymore. I just had to order one from the UK.

It bolts to the firewall but not to the pedal. What you want is a Z3 S54 booster, which you can buy new. Or could, when I bought mine.

I think there are pictures in my thread from trying the e46 booster.

That only works if he doesn't require a pedal travel sensor, though.

What uses the pedal travel sensor? The ASC or the DME?

If the latter, IIRC he's S54 swapped, so he doesn't need that sensor to exist anymore. If the former....no clue, don't have ASC.

Most likely used for ABS. It was used on all early model e36s. My car is a weired one, it was built in late 95. Non ASC 328is.

Has any tried a rebuild one from A1 cardone?

Yea, mine is a 9/95 without ASC and I think it still had the sensor.

Intresting.. my build date is 1995-11-23 and no ASC no sensor.

Is your car originally OBD1?

What model was your car 318/325/m3 OBD1?

95 M3.

Y'know....maybe mine never had it now that I look at it more:
