Default Low mileage S52 engine with issue

I am trying to get an idea of what an S52 motor with 46k on it is worth AFTER the exhaust cam bearing caps (or whatever the things that hold them down are called) all cracked at a driving school event. I think it was because I was using a street oil viscosity on track, and the top end was starved. This was not a money shift, to be clear.
The car kept running, but a couple of pieces of the caps went through the valve cover and it started running rough. I'm pretty sure nothing got into the cylinders, since the intake side was fine. The exhaust cam is intact but obviously scored and should be replaced.
I have the replacement exhaust cam trays and caps, and a new valve cover and gasket, but I have not done the tear down to clean everything out. I did not decide on what cams to put in, when I changed my mind and bought a motor replace this one with instead. There was metal in the oil pan, so this will require a good cleaning and inspection throughout. If you are looking for a strong motor to turn into a track beast, this would be a good candidate if you're already going to tear down and rebuild.

Let me know what this is worth as it sits. I could deliver within a reasonable distance as well.

I would pull the oil pan and get pictures of the bearings. If the crank journals are scoured up from debris then you're looking at a paperweight I'm afraid.

If they're ok then someone can salvage the bottom end and throw a head on it (the heads aren't specific to the m3, just the cam). In this case you'd probably get $5-600

Good idea. Thanks for the feedback. Keeping fingers crossed that it isn't fubared!

If you wind up parting out the motor, I'd be interested in the cams.

I am trying not to go that route, and in any case, the exhaust cam is kinda chewed up - I wouldn't put it into a motor of mine as is. I can take pics if you want to see it, but I am not thinking it's worth saving. The intake side is fine, though.

PM'd you.

All - look for updates and pics sometime over the weekend when I get into the motor a little bit. My fear is I start pulling stuff and the head, and etc and etc and etc, and soon I have a project and a rebuild! I don't need another project!!!
