Default Intro to E36 M3 ownership

Hi all!

After many many months of searching, multiple failed attempts at winning an m3 on Bring A Trailer (won one but reserve not met), flakey sellers and even buying an e46 M3 with instant dissatisfaction for what I really wanted -- my e36 has arrived!

Bought it sight unseen from Arizona and i'm in Denver. I was somewhat picky with what I wanted -- coupe with Modena Vaders or Hurricane Vaders. Almost bought a 95 coupe with Hurricane Vaders but the seller was very sketchy.

This will be a weekend warrior and only driven in nice conditions. My daily is a 2017 Forester XT.

I've owned 8 VW's (3 MK2's, 2 MK3's, 2 Corrado's and 1 Passat) and was big into the scene for years but have been out of the game for awhile. I'm excited to get back into a community of enthusiasts!

Anyways, enough with the talk, here are the specs:

1999 M3 Cosmos with Modena Vader Interior
142k Miles -- Extensive Service History
Accident Free
I'm the 3rd owner. 1st owner bought it after his lease ended and had it for 8 years total. Second owner had it for 10 years.
Build date -- 03-02-1999

Pros:

The body is very straight, engine and tranny feel strong so far.
No cracks in the dash
Carpet is extremely clean
Rear seats are flawless
Front and rear doorcards are in great shape

Cons:
Front seats show some serious wear
Headliner was destroyed and stapled all over the place
Missing faceplate for cd player
Saggy glovebox
Shift knob and boot are very worn
Fake carbon fiber front and rear emblem
Broken fog lights
White face gauges, ugh!

There are a few little things that need attending to, but overall it is in good shape. The Cons are all pretty easy to fix up.

Right now, my main concern is fixing all the problems and getting it properly sorted.

I've attached a couple pics from Friday when it arrived.

I'll be updating this thread as I complete projects.

Love to have feedback/advice from all of you!

Thanks,

Brett

And some cleaned up pics after a quick wash/wax.

Also, replaced the fog lights before I washed it. While my car was being shipped, I started shopping and ordering parts.

The headliner was in pretty bad condition and I had to take care of that ASAP!

I spent a good part of Saturday removing the headliner, cleaning/scrubbing it, covering it in suede, and installing it back in the car.

I'm 6'7" and DO NOT fit well in the backseat haha but thankfully that is over!

Pictures of the headliner before suede and after cleaning.

And pictures of the suede after recovering and installed.

Very happy with how the headliner turned out!

Looks like a nice pickup! Your hood is sitting low on the drivers side. Hopefully it wasn't in an accident but you can adjust it back up

Buy new glass headlights. It will completely transform the front of the car.
