Default Re: Replacement Battery: Any aftermarket recommendations?

Buying a new battery was one of my first sticker shock moments of BMW ownership. I was used to buying $65 DieHard batteries for my old '67 Mustang and when I heard $475 for the Bimmer I'm sure the look on my face would have made an awesome "priceless" meme.

I just bought a Shorai Lithium-Ion battery for my HP4, so far it's a vast improvement - the bike turns over faster and it weighs far less. Longevity is unknown so far though. It also gets put on a trickle charger when not being ridden.

Im looking at a car and the owner mentioned this

And a couple things the car needs:

- Battery
They run somewhere around $250-300. It starts just fine, and the only things affected are the time/date and trip mileage. You can set them, but if you only drive a short distance, they'll reset. If I drive from Kihei to Lahaina or some other long drive, it will keep the time/date, etc. If the car is off but is in position 1 or 2, it will give you a battery charge warning.

Does that sound like a battery problem? Why so much to change a battery?
