Just cleaned the ICV. At first I couldn't hear the valve moving around and figured it was pretty dirty. Got it cleaned up and that valve was moving very freely. Crossed my fingers and started the car. There is absolutely no change.
I want to explain a little better about the idle and blipping the throttle. When the MAF is plugged in it doesn't idle very well. It has a miss to it. When I press on the gas and it goes to 1800 rpm it's very jerky. If I start blipping the throttle aggressively it dies. If I keep pressing on the gas past 2K rpm then the rpm's will climb. But it's not a pure clean sound.
Now when I unplug the MAF the idle is more stable. I can press on the gas to 2K rpm without any stumbling or jerkyness to it. When I blip the throttle aggressively it doesn't stumble or die. Driving is the same between the 2 scenarios where it's worse to drive with the MAF plugged in than without.

I would just get a new MAF at this point. It seems like it's your culprit.

I'm always been a huge fan of Dakar and your sedan is beautiful.

Default Car idle and acceleration hesitating

I've already replaced it though.

But thanks for the props on my car. Second owner from 2004 and 38000 miles. Now it has 180000 miles. Never had a car payment on it, so never had a reason to sell it .

This ICV wasn't really dirty but it's really clean now...

Unfortunately the ignition coils between an e46 and e36 have different plugs . So I've not been able to troubleshoot them.
Can I read the bad coils in any such way thru INPA or NCS Expert?

Well I solved the issue and documented it. I had a vacuum leak at the rear of the VC at one of the grommets. Check out the videos for the fix. My idle is rock solid and the car is pulling better It feels like, at the least its MUCH more smooth. very enjoyable now.

I document the "investigation" haha heres all the videos!

VIDEO 2 - Closer look -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
VIDEO 2 - VC plasstic cover off, found it coming from the coil area of CYL 6-------------------------
VIDEO 3 - Coil out found loose grommet------------------------------------------------------------
VIDEO 4 - Loose bolt out, exposed leak -----------------------------------------------------------
VIDEO 5 - explanation of the test -----------------------------------------------------------------
VIDEO 6 - CLoser look at smoke machine in operation -----------------------------------------------

For a forced induction car, you should make sure to have absolutely zero leaks, that's a closed system after the compressor, only her out should be from the bypass valve not should enter back in after the HFM

Dang! Videos are very informative. I can see the advantage of using one now. Without the right tools a guy simply shotguns repairs or goes on a wild goose chase. Like me buying another MAF...all the other ideas I've tried haven't really cost me a lot of money but mostly time. And they've been things I've needed to fix or replace anyway. I wonder if I can rent something like this?
