In NC, the bill estimate just has to be 75% of the fair market value and it's totaled.
When totaled, the adjuster does his/her own investigating to find FMV and usually finds low priced examples to get you to give up the car and take a low payout. If the accident is the fault of another party, their adjusters are merciless.

Last time I went through that with a Jeep, I gave supporting documentation to the at-fault insurance company for my researched and documented FMV, filed appeals and receipt data which only brought up the total loss payout a couple hundred and was still thousands off of what my FMV was. It was not worth going after the at-fault party for $2000 though and I still might not have won. I kept it and just lived with a total loss title.

Oh dude, that doesn't look that bad. Have them fix it asap, no point in waiting.

It definitely looks worse in person but overall not as bad as I had initially thought.

I want to fix it asap but I'm worried it'll get hit again with hail this summer!

I caved. The car is going into the body shop on Monday.

It'll be in the shop for 2-4 weeks. During that time, i'm pulling some interior pieces to work on restoring, i'll also be ordering a few exterior pieces and cooling overhaul.

Finally picking up the Modena sport seats tomorrow that i'll pull the leather off of and also getting an OEM M3 cluster from the guy, so that I can swap out my hideous bubbled indiglo gauges.

Looking to source/order:

ZKW or Bosch Euro headlights (if I can find a used set in good shape)
OEM Amber Turns

Also, any recommendations on the cooling overhaul kit? Seems like there are a lot of options out there. I'm not sure if it's been done previously on the car, but i'd rather be safe and get it done.

Scratch the seats and cluster. The guy left the seats outside during a snowstorm last week and the seats are ruined. Back on the hunt!

They are worth a bit less now but probably not zero. These are basically painted leather so I doubt they were ruined in 3 days. Vert seats are out in the sun and rain more often than owners admit.

The guy wouldn't even let me come see them after he said they were damaged and he tossed them. Seemed odd to me but i'll keep my eyes out for something else.

Just got the word that my intro to e36 M3 ownership has been cut short.

The car ended up needing $7k to repair and the insurance valued it at $8k.

They deducted $308.17 because of the tear in the drivers seat and the missing center console (David-Bimma360 is working on the console).

I highly doubt i'm going to buy it back as the rear quarter panels and roof have quite a few dents from the hail. It also doesn't seem worth it to replace the original hood, fenders, doors and trunk. I'd likely be putting more money into the car than it'd be worth in the end.

I'm pretty bummed to say the least.

I just received the Market Valuation Report.

Mine is obviously the Loss Vehicle. For Comp 3, they used the For Sale Ad from AZ Euros when I bought the car.

The funny thing is, they didn't even value my car correctly to comp 3. My car suddenly does not have Power Seats, Cruise Control, Heated Seats, Premium Radio, Electric Glass Roof or Tinted Glass

They have some smart people working over there

They valued my vehicle at $8k but valued the car in the for sale ad from AZ Euros at $8500.

And here is comp 1 http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...&modelCode1=M3

What a joke this is. Basically, they compared my car to itself, an e46 non-M and a lower mileage M3 that isn't for sale anywhere online.
