Thumbs up [Data Point]1999 M3 with 226k miles Passed CA Smog. Evap Trouble Included

I wanted to put the info out there because I know we see the I didn't pass smog, I need help threads. My car has the FD code Evap Shut Off Valve Stuck Closed CEL. It's been around for at least 3 years.

02/1999 BMW M3 226,107 Miles at time of smog (4/16/2016).
Oil Change at 226,083
CEL reset at 226,025
Spark plugs changed at 225,472

I drove the M3 25 miles after resetting the CEL in normal highway conditions (25% <40mph, 75% 65+mph). After the oil change, I drove to the canyons and ran through 1-2 gear for about 10 miles (all staying relatively within the speed limit). Drove to the smog place from the canyons, included accelerating a couple times up to highway speed. All while avoiding 5th gear.. cruising in 4th. I've read so much about the evap code being thrown in 5th gear, so I wanted to stay out of it to avoid triggering the CEL and having to restart the CEL reset process. So as you can see, I drove 24 miles between the oil change and the smog. I wanted to make sure the car was nice and heat soaked. I left the car on and the tech did not turn my car off until after the smog was completed. There was no pending code that showed up during pre-smog check. At my request, tech put a fan in front of the M3 blowing straight on the front end/radiator.

Nothing besides oil changes and spark plugs have been changed in respect to the motor/exhaust, with the exception of 1x oxygen sensor in 10/2013

Here's the data:

Smog 04/2016 226,107 miles:
15mph CO2:14.80|O2:.07|HC:53|CO:.02|NO:100
25mph CO2:14.70|O2:.03|HC:29|CO:0.0|NO:33

Smog 04/2014 191,634 miles:
15mph CO2:14.90|O2:.02|HC:53|CO:.05|NO:62
25mph CO2:14.87|O2:.01|HC:31|CO:0.3|NO:20

Smog 04/2012 176,119 miles:
15mph CO2:15.10|O2:0.0|HC:54|CO:.08|NO:50
25mph CO2:15.10|O2:0.0|HC:37|CO:.05|NO:25

Smog 01/2013 (bad print out) 165,690 miles (purchased M3):
15mph CO2:14.70|O2:0.1|HC:4*|CO:.03|NO:2* *These numbers seem off?
25mph CO2:14.90|O2:0.1|HC:3*|CO:0.2|NO:6*

Smog 02/2010 159,075 miles (another bad print out)
15mph CO2:15.30|O2:0.0|HC:54|CO:.07|NO:25
25mph CO2:15.30|O2:0.0|HC:23|CO:.04|NO:10

Smog 04/2002 36,746 miles
15mph CO2:15.30|O2:.5|HC:15|CO:.05|NO:Not Measured
25mph CO2:15.30|O2:.6|HC:08|CO:.01|NO:Not Measured

and my fuelly:

Congrats on the pass. Which plugs are you running? These cars seem to often squeak by at 54ppm HC's. I pulled I think a 17 once, and 2 years later back to 54. I've been trying to figure out if it's dumb luck. I'm due in a couple of months so the nail biting season is here.

Your numbers seem to be creeping up in 2016. If all else is looking good, I wonder if a couple of pre-cat O2 sensors might help you in 2018.

I'm curious about the fan. They're only supposed to use the fan when the ambient temp is above some number, like 75F or so; I don't think it's supposed to be discretionary. Were they trying to be lazy and not set it up for you? I pretty much always get the fan since I test around May/June.

I'm running NGK (6962) BKR6E. It was around 80-85 degrees out when I tested. His shop was a small one that required the car to be reversed into it, so when he kicked on the fan it was facing the exhaust (trying to air out the shop I think). I asked if we could move the fan to the front of the car and explained why. He had no problem and moved it. I told him to make sure he does that with any of "these cars" that he's testing.

I went to the same guy 2 years ago, but he moved shops. I liked him since he saw I had a pending EVAP code and did some research on it while I was in his shop. When I called him he told me he moved, but it wasn't out of the way for me. Super cool guy.. As soon as it passed, he gave me the thumbs up and yelled PASSED! 2 more years before the nail biting starts again

I'm honestly not sure. I know of some guys on here with much higher mileage than me.
