Default Finally an E46 M3 - JDAURIA Journal

Finally picked up my dream car. I looked for one about 5 years ago and nothing really stuck out, and an E39 M5 fell into my lap so I picked that up. Owned that for 4.5-5 years; loved the beast! But that urge to get into an E46 M3 never faded. Recently sold the M5 while I looked for a few months for an M3. Last weekend picked up a 2006 Silver Grey ZCP in Chicago, IL and drove it back to Virginia with a pit stop in New York. Over 1,135 miles with no hiccups Ė averaged a healthy 26.5mpg on the way back.

Background on the vehicle that I know of: Basically a 1-Family owned vehicle from New England. Carfax will say 2 owner (I believe the other was a brother). Silver Grey exterior with Black interior, Competition Package, Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, Navigation, 6-speed manual, bone-stock, 133k miles on the odometer when I picked it up. Original window sticker included! MSRP $62k

I plan on keeping this very close to bone-stock (I know famous last words), I went very OEM+ on the E39 M5 over the years but this ZCP already came with a lot of the items I wouldíve upgraded too if I purchased a non-ZCP M3. Maintenance will be top priority for this vehicle.

Exterior: vehicle has a clear bra on the front since 2006, thatíll need to be replaced at some point. Wheels were recently refinished, new tires were installed (Conti DWS Ė not a huge fan of these but they are new so Iíll leave them for now). Has some light scratches and rock chips but thatís to be expected from a 12 year old vehicle and over 100k miles.

Interior: I was surprised how well the seats held up over this time period. Though, the interior does need some TLC in my opinion. Alcantara steering wheel is very matte and will need to be revived or even recovered. Shift knob is in OK condition, emblem is in good shape Ė some wear on the outer part of the knob. C pillars are toast, will need to be replaced. Carpet mats are finished (driver side has a nice heel mark). Euro tray is in decent shape but I will be replacing with a brand new cup holder (flame on!).

Suspension: Pretty sure I have a broken rear spring, which I hear is common on these. Thatís okay, I plan on replacing with Eibach lowering springs in the near future all around. Shocks/Strut Ė I am not sure if these are still OEM, I will have to get under the vehicle to inspect. Overall the steering is amazing with the ZCP rack.

Upcoming items:
[ ] VANOS Bulletproof Ė spoke with Dafoe and heíll be assisting
[ ] Valve adjustment Ė if necessary during the VANOS maintenance
[ ] Air cabin filter replacement
[ ] Intake filter replacement
[ ] Oil service + oil analysis: Iíll send off to Blackstone Labs
[ ] New Carpet M3 Mats
[ ] New C- Pillars
[ ] Try to restore alcantara steering wheel
[ ] Replace rear spring(s) (Eibach)
[ ] TTFS Tune
[ ] Clean & Condition Leather seats (Gliptone)

Hey, congrats!

Sounds similar to my trip to Indianapolis to pick up my car.

We'll have to meet up in Tysons sometime soon!

I sent out a feeler on M5board for next Saturday March 10th! Supposed to be Sunny 50* - let me know if you can attend. Could like to see an Estoril M3.

Also, need to find another picture hosting site :/

FYI - we are still planning to meet in Tysons this Saturday (10th). Wondering if I should start a thread in the regional section here. I don't want the meet to get too large. I have no authorization to use this parking lot, I just decided to have a couple guys meet up on weekend there. We eventually venture into Chickfila for breakfast so I guess the police can't say anything? (I'm no lawyer).

I'll be there. I think you'll find that even with a post on the regional section, not many (if any) will show up. If things get out of hand, we can always go to my wife's office right around the corner. NBD.

Looking forward to it! Just bought a new Braille Battery - B3121. Hopefully, it will arrive this week so I don't need a jump lol. That would be embarrassing.

Where and when exactly? I'll see if I can make it.
