Default Build Journal - RTD shifter - SMG to 6sp conversion

Arrived today! And here's my parts list. Please let me know if there's anything I'm missing.

RTD Shifter and DSSR
clutch slave cylinder 20 (although I understand you can reuse the SMG clutch slave cylinder?)

Don't hold your breath on this build as I don't anticipate even finishing the mechanical for several weeks. My M3 is a weekend only car and basically sits in the garage all day. I have another BMW I daily, so I'm basically taking my time and will chip away at the job in between my obligations.

So far though, I must say RTD has excellent customer service and their shipping time is really only a little over a week from Lebanon to California. I also have to give LKQ (local pick n pull socal) a thumbs up for the availability and ridiculously low pricing on used parts needed for this build. I got the clutch assembly for 20 bucks! Also, I used FCP Euro for new items.

Lastly, thanks forum members! I finished the balance of my purchases for this conversion from you peeps.

I'm giving myself a month or longer to handle this and at this point will be debating whether I..

1- pay someone to do the programming/coding
2- handle programming myself
3- a combination of 1 and 2 where I download some more finished software that does the coding for a small price.

Lastly, I will be handling this conversion without removing the bell housing, modifying the bell housing (detents) or drilling the bell housing for a GPS. I believe the only thing that could prevent me from doing this will be my ability to remove the dowel pin from the SMG Actuator, insitu. If I can't do that, then this will definitely add to the job time.

I can also tell you that for all the detractors of RTD shifters, now that I have one in hand, this thing is BUILT. Plus, it doesn't require you to weld anything under the trans tunnel or drill holes for the shifter mount since you use the SMG mounts welded in bolts. It's a fraction of the cost of other shifters and I think, singularly changed the game for owners who have SMG cars that want a 6mt like myself and don't want to break the bank, hack up their center console or their backs to do the conversion themselves.

I'm not a track guy, but I am an enthusiast and have owned BMW's for over 17 years, so have some experience. The most difficult job I've done is VANO work (seals only) and I have changed a clutch before on an E39. Hopefully, that qualifies me to do this job. My biggest fears about this job is the programming (if I choose to do it myself) and bleeding a clutch (never did that before).

Goal - Finally owning an alpine white 6speed, though mine does have a sunroof and I would prefer a slicktop.

Good luck. I have a 06 black smg coupe that I would love to rtd shifter swap. I'm just nervous to do it for some reason. I can do 9/10 DIY jobs on our cars and have done a full cyl head swap on an e36

Wish I had the ability to have done this myself on my previous e46m.

Gl with the project! It will be oh so satisfying when you are done! And I've heard nothing but awesome stuff about that rtd shifter!
