Default Euro Headers on US Spec E46 M3

Hi Guys,

just to know what you think are the advantages of installing Euro s54 headers on a US Spec S54? I have read that those headers are better, but I want to know why. Also, is there someone interested on selling them?

Thanks!

No cats in the euro headers, main reason why euro cars have 10 more hp. They flow better but you should have a tune to match

Yep, exactly this ^^^. The US headers have the very restrictive CATs and hold back quite a bit of power from this engine.

I have also been contemplating headers, but just not sure what route to go. There is a comprehensive headers thread in here that I would highly suggest you take a look at before purchase. Lots of excellent info on this subject. The Tune is an absolute must when you install headers. It would be like someone taking steroids and never working out, but expecting results.

Now, the question I have is are stepped headers better than the euro headers? Hmmm....

I’ve heard the only thing worth spending money on besides euro headers is ss v1 or American racing.

Correct unless you can get another brand's for less than $600 and they have good fitment. Fitment matters more than you might guess, especially when it's your knuckles bleeding, and OEM euros are worth it for fitment. Sgt, AA, AP et al don't perform better than Euros, they're just copies.

goin OT a little bit but i don't think they're copies of euro headers, they all have different collectors and O2 sensor placement compared to the euro headers

all the affordable aftermarket headers look like supersprint non-stepped headers. not sure what came first

Ya maybe they're copies of the SS non-stepped headers. Either way, there's no R&D into them and they're made in Asia, so either get euros or pony up for the Italian/American made ones

Check the “official dyno thread” for data and supporting modifications. Base your purchase on supporting hard data with price point your willing to spend in mind. Only then you should come up with a good solid purchase based on research and data.

Use the search this forum function and select “search titles only” to find the the dyno thread which is loaded with tons of data. I believe that specific thread is on the 4th page of this section right now.

Default Euro Headers on US Spec E46 M3

FYI euro headers don't have the post cat o2 bungs or an egt bung since the euro m3 had those on the sec1. Thats one thing I didn't know when I went with euro headers and kept US sec1/2. Then I had the rear o2's coded out in my tune and left them and the egt sensors disconnected from the harness. Might get a euro sec1 eventually but hasn't given me any issues so I'm not worried about it. By far the best power gain for the money.

Supersprint did all the R&D originally for this platform. Everyone copied the proven SS non stepped headers... next step up SS Stepped, and American Racing Headers... BY far best bang for the buck, OEM Euro/OEM Euro cats... remember the OEM Euro headers ONLY have two O2 sensor bungs... the EGT sensor, and the post cat bungs are in the OEM Euro section one... the other header designs have all four bungs, and EGT bung in the headers... I believe ARH do not have the EGT bung...
