Default My $50 Baffled Oil Catch Can

I just bought a CSL airbox and wanted to keep it clean so I had started to research, then buy parts for, a baffled oil catch can. There are some nice kits out there, but they're all around $2-300 and I just didn't think it was worth it, so I started to look at cheaper, generic alternatives. The one to best meet my needs was this one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Baffl...53.m2749.l2649

So at $33 (it now looks to be $38), I still needed hose and clips. I got some 5/8" i.d. (5ft) dishwasher hose kit with hose clamps (from another ebay seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/EASTMAN-DIS.../282723945131? ) for $14 and, lastly, got some black spring clips as well for a sleek look on the end that connect to the engine for a few bucks.

I wanted black, smallish (I drive the car pretty little), baffled, with a dip stick and cheap!

That small o-ring didn't come with the kit, it's actually from our oil filter kits and fits the dip stick perfectly, though not necessary.

In the next pic you can see a steel brace which I fabricated from galvanized 1/8" steel stock, 3/4" wide. I cut a 8" piece, drilled my holes, chamfered the holes, made my bends, and took it to the belt sander to round and smooth it out. Then I polished it with Mother's MAG polish. The hardware I got from my favorite metric hardware source, www.belmetric.com.

You could simply use the hardware supplied and affix the can to that black plastic side "wall" in the drug bin, on the outside like most kits do, bit I used a bracked and a free threaded hole not being used that was for earlier models with the ABS in.

Parts:

I would use plumber's tape on the fittings:

Then I "freed" the connections or bibs for the valve cover and airbox by slicing the hose at the ends and pulled them out, the put them in my new hose ends and clamp them:

Mocked up:

I'll have a final, installed photo once I've finished with the airbox install this weekend.

All done:

Hope this is helpful for others
Tyler

Solid install , looks like It’s supposed to be there. Is the hood going to crush the hose at the rubber seal? Or is it elevated?

Great diy. Along with Pitt's comment, check out the little flap there on the side (you can see it between your hoses too). Almost like it was reserved for this .

Beware of crushing those tubes with the hood. Or you'll see a huge cloud of smoke behind you 5 mins later

Nice. Looks good.

I want to find a way to mount mine where I removed the secondary air pump.

Sorry guys, forgot to make it more clear - I'm not done yet as I'm in the middle of the airbox install. That little flap for the ABS lines will be coming out.

Lol, the hoses are just laying there to show what it will look like basically. That's why the caption said
"Mocked up."

I'll have a finished pic later
