Default E36 M3: Part Deux - The Car Diaries

Seven years after selling my 98 Hellrot/Black E36 M3/2/5, I'm happy to be back in a 97 Hellrot/Black E36 M3/2/5 :-) Picked this up about a month ago from a car enthusiast in Virginia. I picked up my previous M from its original owner back in 2009 but ended up selling it and very much regretted doing so.

I've been on the hunt for a clean E36M for a few years now in either Estoril or Hellrot. Found this one ~400 miles away and couldn't pass it up. Binder full of receipts, paint is in excellent condition, overall a very solid car. Cooling system just replaced, new front control arms, headliner is brand new - pretty much all of the normal E36 issues sorted.

I'm a big fan of OEM so I'm not going to go crazy with it, most likely OEM+ with the + being a nice suspension setup.

Immediate plans include:
Getting the car in 100% shape mechanically
All fluids changed
Fixing the few cosmetic annoyances (e.g. worn rubber bits)
Get rid of school bus steering wheel - thicker new OEM M wheel
CD43
Michelin PSS

Here is my first E36M - Flew down to Arkansas and drove it back 14 hours

Picking up the new E36M near Shenandoah Valley

On the way back through West Virginia with the current Estoril F30

I think I had this facial expression for a solid 7 hours on the way home

Where it currently rests in my parking garage

Couldn't wait long to give it a deep cleaning - seats out for Leatherique and carpet extraction

Door handle trim replaced

With brother's super clean S70T5M

This weekend's project - Guibo/CSB/Shifter Rebuild/ZHP knob

Generally adhere to OEM parts but read that Febi is same as OEM - confirmed to have SGF stamp

Need to update sig!

Nice pick up, and glad to see you back in an E36 M! I, too, recently got back into another Techno after I lost my first one about 10yrs ago.

I'm very familiar with that feeling highlighted in picture 5. Enjoy, man!

That looks really clean.

But please, replace that abomination of a 'steering wheel'.

Man does it ruin the interior or what?
