I replaced the rear speakers that were blown in my '97. They sound really good.

been wanting to do this for a very long time since the base rear nokia speakers in my 95 have been blown out since I bought the car. Looked for any PnP alternatives, but didn't find any that were compatible with a non-hk system on a 95...And I couldn't find any stealthboxes (shouldn't have sold all of mine years ago)

I did come across this thread:
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?1979810

I bought all the parts, but haven't done the swap just yet because I have zero free time. If a reasonably-priced PnP solution comes available in the near future, I would definitely be interested.

thanks.

There are speakers on the market that you can use to replace pretty much any speaker in E36 nowadays, including the ones matching in size, by impedance and wattage, everything. And most are fraction of the cost of BavSound kit.
But you can't beat the convenience, I guess.

What can you recommend for replacing the door tweeter and mid-range speakers? The rears?

HK or not?
If HK, for mid-woofer, check
Peerless NE65W-04 2" Full Range Woofer

They are very exact fit for the mid-woofer, almost plug and play. And they sound way better than HK.
Tweeters are easy, just pick your favorite 1-inch tweeter, they all fit just fine.
Rears, I need to research, don't remember from the top of my head, but many options.

Not quite got my finger on the pulse, what tweeter do you recommend, or a couple of them?

Just search amazon for a 1 inch tweeter - there will be quite a selection. Just pick one in your price range.
Here is one for example:

I also pieced together my speakers in my M3 also for way cheaper than the Bavauto kit and it sounds MUCH better than stock HK.

Links are in this post:
