I have a 2004 - direct plug and play yes?

Yes, it's a 15 minute job. Even for 2003 and older, if you can get enough slack on the heating element wires, it's really simple.

Does the heating element work for all E46 M3's (pre or post facelift?) or do you need a cold weather package for it to work?

And for pre-facelift - what I gather from your statement is that you need create slack by basically trying to see if you can extend the wire so it will plug into the Mirror base plate heating element connector, right?

All these that are sold super cheap have a significant amount of scratches and possibly already failing... I had to go through a dispute.

I ended up getting some other ones that would have cost around $90 shipped (from Latvia)... I would just take my lesson and only buy the units that are 5 out of 5 stars.

I also applied a bead of clear silicone around the perimeter before installing at the gap between the lens and backing plate to help mitigate moisture behind the lens causing it to fail.

At the bottom of the first page of this thread, I did a little writeup of the Koalty versions. It'll show you how the heater connectors are on the opposite side, so the wires will barely be long enough.

I also wrote up instructions on how to remove your old mirrors, which are easy to break if you don't know how it's done.

My 2004 M3 doesn't have the cold weather package, yet the heated mirrors work fine. I've been happy with the Koalty versions too. There seems to be no lack in quality of these mirrors.
