I contemplate it every time I hit a pot hole on one of these shitty roads....

I'm itching to get another motorcycle anyway so I may go that route and kill two birds with one stone. Easier to negotiate traffic too.

I JUST bought a golf MKV GTI as my DD, and so far loving it.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=358646

I still wanted something fun to drive, a little better on gas, but my main focus was to spare my M. I have a 50mn commute to work, all highway, and it's been killing me to just see the miles adding up my M, I really want to keep it as long as I could and i just drive too much every year

The GtI is pretty reliable. If you can look into the TSI engine, as the FSI has a few little bugs(cam follower and fuel pump). I have the FSI but I was aware of theses issues and I have a warranty, and I believe extended warranty also exists on these parts, because VW has recognized the issues.
Fixes and maintenance is also a lot cheaper on these cars, mods also are pretty cheap compare to the M.

I was either looking for an E30(but ppl around here are just asking ridilculous prices, and it's just too old for all the miles I drive), or something fun like a 350z or the gti.

If my main focus was to save money in gas, I would pick up a Golf or jetta tdi

ill be getting an older a4 avant or sedan, mainly just to not put as many miles on the m3 and something to still be able to take to shows with, and take my dog

Nope M3 is my DD, rain & snow. I plan to buy a weekend ride, something with 4-doors, luxurious, and TORQUE! One of those cars I can take a date out and have it valeted.

Well .. the Audi belongs to the wife. It was her turn for a new car after the purchse of the M Coupe.

So - it's my turn again.

Here is the milage on my current DD, a 2000 ford ranger. Trading it in on a car for my daughter.

e46 M3 is the DD. Have the Ducati for weekend fun and the e30 M3 for more weekend fun...

I don't really understand the reasoning around keep miles off of these cars and if I didn't drive it to work everyday (~45 mile round trip), I would hardly ever drive it and would end up selling it -- depreciating asset not getting enough use, insurance costs, etc....

I don't understand why would someone spend thousands on an additional car, additional insurance and additional possible hassles just to save a few bucks on gas. Am I missing something?
