Now that's the feedback I was looking for! I need to read up on MINIs but if you have heard of reliability issues then maybe I should look at a Honda or Toyota as a DD. My commute is about 50miles daily plus I use my M on weekends so I am putting about 350-400miles a week on my odometer. Still under 70k but its fast approaching. Thanks all for the feedback so far...

What about Golfs GTI? Their price aint that bad, and if I'm not mistaken they are pretty reliable and have good enough gas mileage. Let me know otherwise!

Cheers!

This does not add up. Spend 10000$ plus maint plus insurance to save 1000$ a year on gas.
Not

How many miles do you drive per year. What do you average for mpg. What would a mini average for mpg + howmany miles would you drive it. Use that to calculate how much money you would save in gas over 4-5 years assuming gas prices stay the same. Does that substantially outweigh the cost to purchase + maintenance of a mini?

if so, go for mini

Ive got a '08 Accord LX (thats the I4). Beautiful for a DD considering Ive got a daily 60 mile drive for work. Great gas mileage, comfortable, sporty-ish (kinda- who'm I kidding) Its also incredibly simple, repairs and maintenance alike (even compared to previous Honda models). I used to have an '06 Maxima. Great comfort and power for the $, but a terrible car mechanically, totally unreliable. In fact I'd turn anyone away from buying a Nissan..... EVER AGAIN. Unless its 90% from Japan, then maybe.

VW generally rates in the lower end of JDPower surveys, but I don't know if it's a non golf model skewing those stats.

E46 M3 daily driver in the summer.
Chev Blazer ZR2 4x4 for the winter.

The Blazer is on deaths doorstep so I am shopping for a replacement, maybe a mid-2000's X5.

I want another car for DD duties. To keep the miles low.

Looking into MKV GTI or MKIV R32. The MKIV is getting old tho.

Exactly what I was thinking.... Probably more like $300-400 a yr on gas. I could get a lot more fuel efficent car than the M3, but I don't mind spending an extra $400 a yr on gas to drive something I enjoy everyday.
