Default EDC strut nut stuck at top , cant get 10mm on.

I was reinstalling the strut nut on the front passenger side on an EDC strut and the nut got stuck at the top threads just high enough so that I can't get the 10mm far enough down to grab the teeth. (Just FYI, the EDC have the plastic connector to adjust stiffness in the middle, so I can't stick a hex into the strut tower. That's why the 10mm socket is used.) Trying to be really careful here so that I don't strip it. I was following bill's guide (http://www.billswebspace.com/M3HRSpringInstallation) using a 21mm wrench on the nut and the 10mm socket on the strut. (I added a pic of his method from his guide.) Any suggestions?

I'd bet a quick burst with an air/electric impact gun could get the nut off and without damage to threads/strut. Alternatively have you tried a socket wrench? Maybe a couple "quick" and slightly-aggressive pulses could do it. Could even put a strap around the strut in the wheel well.

I picked up a new nut today because those have that soft metal interior that’s made to deform. So I’m not concerned about using the air gun to back off the old nut.

My real concern is not having something good to hold the piston shaft without marring it. I picked up a 300lb trigger clamp today. Fingers crossed that’ll do it. Unfortunately, while I can gently use some sand paper on the threads if there’s any damage, I couldn’t find a rethreader at HD for this size. So more fingers crossed the threads aren’t damaged.

Do you have a dremel with a small cutting wheel? Just cut the nut on both sides.

Got it. Got the grip clamp on the strut shaft and one pull on the gun knocked it loose. Looked like some strands of the deforming nut material (not sure what you call that) caked around the threads. But threads were in great shape. The new nut went right on. Tightened everything down and good to go. Alignment on Monday.

Went with the the H&R Sport Plus. Really think it turned out well and their tunes for EDC. Rear is just above the tire and front is about a half inch up. Not super dumped. Just has a nice look that got rid of the majority of the gap.

Glad to get everything buttoned up and not be spending my entire weekend with this. Thanks for the tips guys!
