Default [Q]aftermarket head unit question

got the very 1st generation of Dynavin (wince) based ..
had the 6m or 5m fakra extension cable with this setup ..

recently got myself a 7.1 android unit ..
just wondering, will i be able to just replace the head unit only?

got myself a new 6m cable with this system as well, just thought maybe
it's the same wiring? (for the main power and sound signals)..

or, perhaps i can match up the "potentially" mis-matched color cable, so i don't need to take out the old cable for the new one?

anyone with experience? really try to avoid taking apart too many sections ..

Should be able to just swap the HU... most of these units tie into the standard E46 plugs without any modification which is why they are sold as E46 HU's.

The Fakra cable is just an extension it doesnt change any of the wiring so you should be good to go.

awesome.
thanks for the reply
will take out the old unit this weekend to take a look ..
hope it's a quick swap job

side note:
man, old unit is running for like 10+ years ..
only screen panel has some white spot at the corner ..

but an Android unit would definitely be more flexible and powerful ..

end up to use the new fakra extension cable..

the wiring is very different, canbus is now in the front ..
before is all the way in the trunk, so ..guess wiring is a bit too much to re-pairing ..

^^

after all, just swap out the extension cable, the rest is pretty much straightforward ..

GPS wire can be reused ..

the new android system is so much faster/functional ..
able to get the latest navigation going ..
