Default Re: ECS Tuning :: Geunine BMW Motorsport Differential Fluids ~ AKA FM Booster

The FM added to the fluid isn't for the diff gears, but the LSD clutch pack. All GL5 fluids with have EPs for long life of the bearings. I'd rather have some noise and good lock up than silence and slipping, in other words, don't put too much FM in there IMO.

For what it's worth, when I bought my M3 it had diff groaning. Changed to the BMW fluid, and no groaning. Recently changed to the non-BMW Castrol Syntrax, and still no groaning. I don't know if my limited slip action is just worn enough by now to not make noises, but the non-BMW branded stuff seems to have adequate friction modifier.

Default ECS Tuning :: Geunine BMW Motorsport Differential Fluids ~ AKA FM Booster

I've now used LiquiMoly's GL5 fluid on two customer cars and asked both to be on the lookout for any strange noises. Had one follow up for service yesterday after a month of driving and he's reported everything sounds and works fine. My next diff change I'll be switching to the LM fluid as even wholesale on the OE isn't that nice.

FWIW, LM does claim to have FM booster mixed in, and approved for M diff's.

I'd say it's harder to find a 75w90 or 75w140 GL5 without FM in it as opposed to with. The trick is, if it says LSD anywhere on the bottle, you can bet your bottom dollar it has FM in it

"BMW real-axel tranmission oil"? Is that supposed to be a different language or just multiple typos?

I use LM for my oil, but I don't know if I'd trust that fluid just cause of that label lmao.
