Default M3 Stolen almost 2 years ago - Itching won't stop..

Hi everyone

I don't post too often but was really active on the forum for several years ( 6 actually ) that I owned my 2002 IR/IR 6MT coupe until it was literally stolen from my driveway about 2 years ago in the middle of the night.

Sadly, its one of those vehicles that you don't come across too often and it represented a period of my life that I've moved on from in terms of priorities and responsibilities ( aka growing up )

Every now and again I search for project cars I might be willing to get back into and put some $ to fix-up but I always run into the same set of problems with the E46 I see on CraigsList

1) Car looks OK, Price is reasonable, but has horrible dated interior with creased leather - which is typical for the mileage but I just can't see myself sitting inside it.

2) Car is SMG or Convertible

3) Car is nice but WAY overpriced (i.e. Enthusiast Auto Group level crazy )

Question for the forum:
1) if you'r car was stolen/crashed/written off today, would you get back into another E46 M3?
2) would you spring a few extra $ for an E90?
3) would you go all the way to an F80
4) Would you just wait it out for prices on E90/F80 to fall?
5) would go go a different route altogether?

Most of us will give you a biased answer given this is an E46 forum.

So yes, I would keep looking for a clean E46 6MT. For me, this is the car I really wanted to own and Iím considering keeping it for a long time if it makes sense financially. Cars like these wonít be around for much longer.

But I think the E90 is also a really good option. NA and has more modern comforts.

Get an SMG car and convert it to 6MT. That's the way to get the clean ones that Enthusiast doesn't snatch up/price jack.

Oh man I would be so upset I probably wouldn't want to drive one or see one ever again. Irrational? Probably.

1. Yes, absolutely. I play the awful game in my head "if my E46M were to get totaled tomorrow, what would I buy" and having driven pretty much all the cars that I had considered, I would just get another one, and the only difference would be considering other color combos. Otherwise it would have to be identical.
2. No, having had the E91 DD for a while now, it just doesn't have the same level of serviceability as E46, and IMO, doesn't look nearly as good.
3. I'm doing everything in my power to avoid EPS.
4. N/A as those cars are not influencing my buying decision
5. IMO this is entirely a budget consideration. How much do you have to spend?

1) Yes and no, I'd start my M3 wagon project.
2) No
3) No
4) No
5) No because the e46 platform is everything I could ask for right now.

Yeah, the good buy if you're comfortable doing car work is buying an SMG car and converting it to manual. Also, not expecting good condition coupes to be average condition vert prices.

As to your questions, for me:
1) yes
2) nope, no e9X desires.
3) nope, even less F8X desires
4) If you want an e90/F8X, they will be cheaper as time passes. e46s have bottomed out, been on the rise recently.
5) I might build myself an e39 532i (s54/420g powered), with all bushings converted to sealed monoballs and M sport body work

since you've last owned your e46, I think the e46 chassis has went up in value.. so that might be throwing you off.. you may think a car is over priced but it's really right on par with what its worth.

1) Yes
2) No
3) No, though I could afford to if I wanted to.
4) No, may consider a M2 someday but most likely not.
5) I am very happy with my Chevy Volt, and M3 for the weekends
