Default E30 or F80 M3

Came across a unique opportunity to purchase a low mileage E30 M3, price is around $40K. What would you do... go for the E30, or put down the cash on a new F80 M3?

F80 I would daily and drive a lot, E30 would be strictly a weekend/once a month type of car.

E30 hands down. The only thing appealing to me about the F80 is the looks

Not sure how this is between the oldest m3 out vs newest.

With my lifestyle I'd go with f80. I'd feel good going on dates and business meetings with that but I'd be embarrassed to be seen in an e30. E30 is underpowered and too dated for me. But you'll get brownie points from other BMW car guys...which is cool...I guess.

If you care about resale value then e30 is a good choice. But that means keeping the car garaged and rarely driving it etc.

Agreed, no contest. I'd WAY rather have the modern, rigid, refined, bad to the bone M4 for my purposes - a car that you can just get in and tear the road up with in style, drive to work in comfort, etc.

I can't see the E30 M3 being even slightly fun or rewarding to drive 99% of the time so there's no way in hell I'd drop 40-freaking thousand dollars on one. Hell, the E36 is getting very long in the tooth and it's a much better street car than the E30.

Are you nuts? Or just rich?

This is a really odd choice — there are a lot of factors when you look at it including if you will have a daily.

I can see the appeal for the E30. Very classy and rare. You'd get points just for owning one that is still running. IMO, it really comes down to how you feel about this chassis. The reason why I bought my E46 is because I felt I might not get the chance to experience my favorite car (for a reasonable price) if I hold off any longer. This might be the case for you. If so, you'll want a daily along with it.

With the F80 it will be the only car you need. You get all the latest tech and a ton of power. You can enjoy it in any occasion without any worries, not just on the weekends.
